Drift Measuring Instrument
An instrument used to
measure the drift of a vessel or drifting object on the water relative to the
geographical location of a selected reference point due to wind direction,
current, and tide.
There are many ways to
measure drift. One of them is to use a bottom-mounted sonar sunk to the bottom
of the water as a selected reference point. At the same time, a transponder is
installed on the drifting object. Using the transponder method, the relative
distance between the two is continuously measured, thereby measuring the drift
of the floating object relative to the reference point.
